On the ‘eve of All Souls the Good Witches dance
Deep in the woods, in circle, in trance
‘Neath a blood-red moon – ‘tis an ancient romance

‘Round the Fires on Samhain Eve
Some folk say and do believe
Ancestors ‘tween the dancers weave

The Witches, they chant as shadows fall
An arcane tune, a haunting call
Lit by candles and lanterns - frost covered all

‘Twixt pumpkins and gourds and leaves that are dry
They gift to the forest their sweet lullaby
As owls blink their eyes and ghosties fly by

These stories all told round the Samhain Fires -
Are the tellers true or inventive liars
Fueled by a cauldron of dark playful desires?

Now I can’t say if this all be a lie
But if ghosties, goblins and haints DO fly
Mayhap will I - when my bones turn dry!

‘Round the Samhain fires my soul to fly...
